You got the answer 1, so let's check it out. One third of 1 is 1%2F3, One half of 1 is 1%2F2, 35 less than 1%2F2 is -34.5. -34.5 and 1%2F3 are not the same thing, so your answer cannot be correct. Let's start over from the beginning.

A number: x
One third of the number: x%2F3
Half of the number x%2F2
35 less than half of the number: x%2F2-35

One third of a number is (and the is here means equals) 35 less than half of the same number, so:

x%2F3=x%2F2-35

Multiply both sides of the equation by 3:

x=3x%2F2-105

Multiply both sides of the equation by 2:

2x=3x-210

Add -3x to both sides:

2x-3x=-210
-x=-210

Multiply both sides of the equation by -1:

x=210

Check:
One third of 210 is 210%2F3=red%2870%29. One half of 210 is 210%2F2=105 and 35 less than that is 105-35=red%2870%29. Answer checks
