Question 130297: Please help me with this problem I don't know exactly where to start from. Please help me.
Solve the following problem involving applications of polynomials.
A rectangular parking lot is 50 ft longer than it is wide. Determine the dimensions of the parking lot if it measures 250 ft diagonally.
Answer by checkley71(8403) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! X^2+(50+X)^2=250^2
X^2+2500+100X+X^2=62,500
2X^2+100X+2,500-62,500=0
2X^2+100X-60,000=0
2(X^2+50X-30,000)=0
2(X+200)(X-150)=0
X-150=0
X=150 ANSWER FOR THE SHORTER DIMENSION.
150+50=200 IS THE LONGER DIMENSION.
PROOF:
150^2+200^2=250^2
22,500+40,000=62,500
62,500=62,500
