Question 12865: In a collection of nickels and dimes the number of dimes is 3 more than twice the number of nickels. If the value of the collection is $1.80, how many coins are there? Answer by stanbon!(97) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! Let number of nickels be "x".
Then number of dimes is 2x+3
Value of nickels is (5)x cents
Value of dimes is (10)(2x+3)= (20x+30) cents
Equation:
Value of nickels + Value of dimes is 180 cents
5x + 20x+30 = 180
25x = 150
x = 6 (number os nickels)
2x+3 = 15(number of dimes)
