You can put this solution on YOUR website! A truck traveling at a constant rate of 45 mph leaves Tampa. One hour later a car traveling at a constant rate of 60 mph also leaves Tampa traveling in the same direction on the same highway. How long will it take for the car to catch up to the truck if both vehicles continue in the same direction on the highway?
-------------------------------------------
Truck DATA:
Rate = 45 mph ; Time = x hrs. ; Distance = rt = 45x miles
-----------------------
Car DATA:
Rate = 60 mph ; Time = x-1 hrs ; Distance = rt = 60(x-1)=60x-60 miles
-----------------------
EQUATION:
distance = distance
45x = 60x-60
-15x = -60
x = 4 hrs
x-1 = 3 hrs (time it will take the car to catch up to the truck)
