You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Find the maximum and minimum point of the function and state whether it is a maximum or minimum?
f(x)=x^2-16x+66
The answer choices are
(0,8) minimum
(2,0) maximum
(8,2) minimum
(2,8) maximum
-------------------------
max or min occurs where x = -b/2a = 16/2 = 8
Since the parabola opens up there is a minimum at (8,2)

Find the maximum/minimum point (vertex) of:
f%28x%29+=+x%5E2-16x%2B66
First, notice that the coefficient of the x%5E2 term is +1, so this tells you that the parabola opens upwards, therefor, the vertex will be at the minimum point of the curve.
The x-coordinate of the parabola is given by: x+=+-b%2F2a, so...
x+=+-%28-16%29%2F2%281%29
x+=+16%2F2
x+=+8 Substitute this into the original equation to find the y-coordintae of the vertex:
y+=+8%5E2-16%288%29%2B66
y+=+64-128%2B66
y+=+130-128
y+=+2
The location of the vertex is at (8, 2) and is a minimum.
