Question 127036: If C= the cost of a gallon if gasahol, g= price per gallon of gasoline, a= price per gallon if alcohol, and p% is the percent of gasoline, write a formula for the cost, C, of gasahol.
Thank you for the help I am starting to understand this stuff.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
You are mixing gasoline and alcohol
(cost of a gallon of gasahol) =
(price per 1 gallon of gasoline)x(fraction of a gallon used)
+(price per 1 gallon of alcohol)x(fraction of a gallon used)
------------------------------------------------------------
If p% of gasoline is used, the fraction of 1 gallon
would be p%2F100
The fraction of alcohol used would then be 1+-+%28p%2F100%29
The formula for the cost per gallon of gasahol is:
C+=+g%2A%28p%2F100%29+%2B+a%2A%281+-+p%2F100%29 answer
suppose I had:
g = $3 /gal
a = $4 /gal
p = 90
C+=+3%2A%2890%2F100%29+%2B+4%2A%281+-+90%2F100%29
C+=+3%2A.9+%2B+4%2A.1
C+=+2.7+%2B+.4
C+=+3.1dollars /gal gasahol
