Question 126896: Evaluate 3x + 7 when x = -3.
Answer by apachemexican1(64) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! first plug in the -3 in place of the x
3(-3)+7=
then multiply the
3 and -3.
(remember: when you multiply
two negative numbers the answer is positive.
when you multiply
two postive numbers the answer is positive.
when you multiply
one positive number and one negative number the answer is negative.
these rules apply for division as well.)
-9+7=-2
the answer is negative
because, of the two numbers
you are adding, if the bigger number is
negative then the answer is going to be
negative as well.
