3x-y=-9-----(1)
4x+y=-5-----(2)

First we cancelled x or y. If we cancel x then we get y value and if cancel y then we get x value.
So now we decide to cancel y in both equations.
If we add two equations then y will be cancelled (because +y, -y)
Therefore we get 7x=-14
implies that x=-14/7
Therefore x=-2.
Now we substitute this x value in any one of this equation.
Equation (1) implies 3(-2)-y=-9,
-6-y=-9 multiply by (-) we get,
6+y=9
y=9-6=3
Hence x=-2 and y=3.
