If two line segments are parallel, their slopes are the same.
If two line segments are perpendicular, their slopes are negative reciprocals.

y=2x-5 and y=2x+5
These 2 equations have the ssame slope 2 and 2 so these are parallel lines.
3x+y=5 write it in the y=mx+b form y=-3x+5
-x+3y=6 We need to write this in the form of y = mx+b so y= 1/3 x +2
These graphs have the slope -3 and the other is 1/3 so these are perpendicular.

3x+y=5 y=-3x+5
x+y=3 y=-x+3
These are not parallel nor perpendicular.
