You can put this solution on YOUR website!
A machine requires 4 hours to make a unit of Product A and 3 hours to make a unit of Product B. Last month the machine operated for 200 hours producing a total of 60 units. How many units of each type of product did it produce?
------------------
Let a be the number produced by A; Let b be the number produced by B.
EQUATIONS:
Quantity Equation: a + b = 60
Time equations: 4a + 3b = 200
-------------------
a = 60-b
4(60-b)+3b = 200
240-b = 200
b = 40 (# of unis produced by B)
-----------
Substitute into a = 60-b to solve for "a":
a = 60-40 = 20 (# of units produced by A)
