Question 122715: Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that is perpendicular to the line y = (-1/3)x + 4 that passes through the given point (-4,2). That is just one question. I have another question....
Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that is parallel to the line y = -4x + 5 and that passes through the given point (-8,5).

You can put this solution on YOUR website! Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that is perpendicular to the line y = (-1/3)x + 4 that passes through the given point (-4,2).
---------------------
The slope must be 3 if the line is to be perpendicular.
The form is y=mx+b and you know y,x, and m; solve for "b":
2 = 3*-4 + b
b = 14
EQUATION:
y = 3x+14

Write an equation in slope-intercept form for the line that is parallel to the line y = -4x + 5 and that passes through the given point (-8,5).
--------------------
The slope must be -4 if the line is to be parallel.
The form is y = mx+b and you know y,x, and m; solve for "b":
5 =-4*-8+b
5 = 32+b
b = -27
EQUATION:
y = -4x-27
