You can put this solution on YOUR website! Bruce discovered that the wishing well contained $9 in nickles and dimes and that there were 30 more dimes than nickles. How many coins of each type were there?
--------------------
Let # of nickels be "x"; Value is 5x cents.
# of dimes is "x+30" ; Value is 10(x+30) = 10x+300 cents
----------------------
EQUATION:
value + value = 900 cents
5x + 10x+300 = 900
15x = 600
x = 40 (# of nickels)
x+30=70 (# of dimes)
