Question 121766: Use the concept of slope to determine if the given figure is a parallelogram or a rectangle.

I do not understand how to determine this. I have a picture but I cannot paste it here. Can you help me with understanding the concept?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Rectangles are parallelograms, you can check their definitions.
For example, graph and label the following points:
A(+-9,+-2);
B(+-7,2);
C(+-4,3);
D(+-6,+-1).
and prove if the figure forms a parallelogram, using slope=m to do so:

find a slope of line that goes throug these two points:
A(+-9,+-2); D(+-6,+-1).
m%5B1%5D+=+%28%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29%29
m%5B1%5D+=+%28-1-%28-2%29%29%2F%28-6-%28-9%29%29
highlight%28m%5B1%5D+=+1%2F3%29

find a slope of line that goes throug these two points:
B(+-7,2); C(+-4,3);

m%5B2%5D+=+%28y%5B2%5D-y%5B1%5D%29%2F%28x%5B2%5D-x%5B1%5D%29

m%5B2%5D+=+%283+-+2%29%2F%28-4-%28-7%29%29

highlight%28m%5B2%5D+=+1%2F+3%29……….

=> the figure does form_+a_+parallelogram because opposite sides AD and BC of figure ABCD are parallel to one another; they have the same+slope);
m%5B1%5D+=+m%5B2%5D
