From the first equation, substitute y = 4x into the second equation.


You will get

    8x - 4(4x) = -40,

    8x - 16x = -40

      -8x    = -40

        x    = %28-40%29%2F%28-8%29 = 40%2F8 = 5.


Then from the first equation  y = 4x = 4*5 = 20.


ANSWER.  x= 5,  y= 20.
