x/16+y/2=7 now multiply the second equation by -1/2 & add.
x/8+y/4=3
-x/32-y/4=-7/2

4x/32-x/32=6/2-7/2
3x/32=-1/2 now cross multiply.
3x*2=-32
6x=-32
x=-32/6
x=-16/3 answer.
-16/3*1/8+y/4=3
-16/24+y/4=3
y/4=3+16/24
y/4=3+2/3
y/4=9/3+2/3
y/4=11/3 cross multiply
3y=44
y=44/3 answer.
