You can put this solution on YOUR website!

x = some positive real number
12x = amount Dorcas gets
15x = amount her brother gets

12x+15x = 450
27x = 450
x = 450/27
x = (9*50)/(9*3)
x = 50/3

Dorcas = 12x = 12*(50/3) = R200
Brother = 15x = 15*(50/3) = R250

Just saw that her brother is 3 years older, not 3 years old.

Dorcas' age: 12
Brother's age: 12 + 3 = 15

Ratio of Dorcas' age to her brother's age: 12:15 = matrix%281%2C3%2C+12%2F3%2C+%22%3A%22%2C+15%2F3%29 = 4:5

With MULTIPLICATIVE factor being x, Dorcas and her brother will get 12x and 15x, respectively
                  Total amount: 12x + 15x = 27x
                         We then get: 27x = 450
             Multiplicative factor, or matrix%281%2C5%2C+x%2C+%22=%22%2C+450%2F27%2C+%22=%22%2C+50%2F3%29
      Amount Dorcas receives:

Amount her brother receives:

Tutor @MathTherapy did not read the problem correctly; as a result, he mocked the correct answer from the other tutor....

The two ages are 12 and 12+3=15; the ratio is 12:15 = 4:5. R450.00 divided in the ratio 4:5 gives R200.00 to one of them and R250.00 to the other.
