3/2 = 1.5 will go at the midpoint of 1 and 2.

-1 & 3/4 = -1.75 will go between -2 and -1
Split the interval from -2 to -1 into 4 equal pieces.
Then mark the quarter position closest to -2.

In other words, let's say A,B,C are at -2, -1.5, and -1 respectively.
B is the midpoint of A and C.
The location of -1.75 is at the midpoint of A and B
