Question 120537: A small area in front of a building is triangular in shape. The perimeter of the triangle is 37 meters. The second side is one-half of the first side in length. The third side is 3 meters less than the first side. Find the length in meters of each side of the triangular region.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The perimeter of the triangle is the sum of the 3 sides.
Let x be side #1
Based on the information given, side #2 = x/2.
Based on the information given, side #3 = x-3.
Now, you can write an equation for the perimeter in terms of x:
x%2Bx%2F2%2Bx-3=37
Simplify:
2x%2Bx%2F2=40
5x%2F2=40
5x=80
highlight%28x=16%29
That is the dimension of side #1. use the information given above to find side #2 and side #3. I will leave that part to you.
