You can put this solution on YOUR website! he spent 1/10 on transport
he spent 1/5 on food
he spent 1/2 on his parents
that's a total of 1/10 + 2/10 + 5/10 = 8/10.
let x = his total salary.
he saved 480.
your formula is 1/10 * x + 1/5 * x + 1/2 * x + 480 = x
this becomes 8/10 * x + 480 = x
subtract 8/10 * x from both sides of the equation to get:
480 = 2/10 * x
solve for x to get:
x = 10/2 * 480 = 2400
the fraction of his salary that he saves if 480 / 2400 = .2 which is equal to 1/5.
your solution needs to be selection B.
part a of selection B is correct.
part b of selection B is correct.
part c doesn't look right.
from the problem statement, he spent 1/10 on transport.
that would be 240.
he also spent 1/5 on food.
that would be 480.
if part c was only for transport, it would be correct.
if it's really transport AND food, then it's wrong, because that would be equal to 3/10 * 2400 = 720.
