If the bedroom area used 20 yd² more than the living room,
let carpet used in living room be x sq. yards cost Php13 per square yard
the bedroom area used 20 yd² more
they used (x+20) sq. yards in bedroom. cost Php 10 per square yard.
Santos spent Php1468 on carpeting for their new home.

13x +10(x+20) =1468
13x +10x +200=1468
23x = 1468-200
23x= 1268
x= 55.13 Living area sq. yards
55.13*13 = 716.69
Bedroom area = 55.13+20 = 75.13 sq. yards
75.13 *10= 751.30
So, the Santos spent approximately Php 716.69 on carpeting for the living room and approximately Php 751.30 on carpeting for the bedrooms.
