Question 120303: Is the relationship shown by the following data, linear? -10,-7
0,-3
5,-1
20,5
How do I figure out if it is or isn't. I know that the rate of change is different, but I'm lost from there. How would I model the data in an equation?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
what rate of change is different?

if the relation is linear, then the slope [(change in y)/(change in x)] between any two points is constant

from (-10,-7) to (20,5) __ x change is 20-(-10) or 30 __ y change is 5-(-7) or 12 __ slope is 12/30 or .4

pick any other pair(s) of points to see of the slope is constant

HINT -- it is
