Peter is now 12 years old and John is 3 years old. In how many years will Peter be twice as old as John?
Let Peter's age after x years be twice that of John

Peter is now 12 years old . After x years he will be 12+x years
John is 3 years old. After x years he will be 3+x years

12+x = 2(3+x)
12+x = 6+2x
2x-x = 12-6
x =6 After 6 years
