You can put this solution on YOUR website! A theater group made appearances in two cities.
Let hotel charge in first city be x
The hotel charge before tax in the second city was $1000 higher than in the first.
= x+1000
The tax in the first city was 8.5%,
Total tax in first city =8.5%x
and the tax in the second city was 10%.
Total tax in the second city = (x+1000)*10%
The total hotel tax paid for the two cities was $1,025
8.5%x +(x+1000)*10% = 1025
0.085x +0.1x =1025-100
x= 5000.00 charges in first city
5000+1000=6000 charges in second city
check
5000*8.5% +6000*10%=1025
CITY HOTEL Charge tax rate taxes
1 x 8.5% 0.085x
2 x+1000 10 0.10(x+1000)
TOTAL 1025
Sum of taxes for the two combined hotels, in all a single variable, .
Solve for x, the hotel charge for in the first city: ---------hotel for first city
