You can put this solution on YOUR website!
PERSON          AMOUNT INITIAL     AMOUNT AFTER
Bob               6x                6x-20
Ted               2x                2x
Alice             5x                5x+20

After the transfer, "Alice would have 225% more money than Ted."

To follow that exactly as written, 5x%2B20=2x%2B2.25%2A2x, and then
5x%2B20=6.5x
1.5x=20,
but this is nonsense. x MUST be a positive whole number.

The problem as posted, with the numbers shown, does not have a reasonable answer. Although it is unfortunately quite likely that you have shown the problem as it was given to you, check your post to see if you have shown the correct information.

If you did not post the problem correctly, then re-post with the right numbers.

Otherwise, the problem has the following unreasonable solution.

Use the given ratio to set up the problem with Bob, Ted, and Alice having amounts 6x, 2x, and 5x initially. Then after Bob gives Alice $20, the amount Bob would have will be 6x-20, and the amount Alice will have is 5x+20. We are told that then Alice would have 225% more money than Ted:

5x+20 = 2x + 2.25(2x)
5x+20 = 2x+4.5x
5x+20 = 6.5x
20 = 1.5x
x = 20/1.5 = 40/3

Then the total amount shared among the three of them would be

6x+2x+5x = 13x = 13(40/3) = 520/3

An amount of "520/3 dollars" is not reasonable....
