You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Maybe ambiguous, but a first try
Ron, 3c
Carl, c
3c-5=12%28c-5%29-1
3c-5=12c-60-1
3c-5=12c-61
66=9c
c=66%2F9
c=22%2F3
c=7%261%2F3---------MAYBE.
and then five years ago, Carl be 2%261%2F3------MAYBE

Ron is 2 less than thrice the age of Carl. 5 years ago, Ron,...
----------------------------------------------------------------------
Ron, 3c-2
Carl, c
3c-2-5=12%28c-5%29-1, "twelve times Carl's age diminished by 1"

3c-7=12c-60-1
-7=9c-61
9c=61-7
9c=54
c=6

Ron is 2 less than thrice the age of Carl. 5 years ago, Ron is WAS 12 times of Carl diminished by 1. What is WAS Carl's age 5 years ago?

He's WRONG!! When will he learn that INTEGERS should represent age?
THIS: c=7%261%2F3---------MAYBE. AND THIS: and then five years ago, Carl be 2%261%2F3------MAYBE, ARE RUBBISH, so cross%28c=7%261%2F3%29---------MAYBE.
and then five years ago, Carl be cross%282%261%2F3%29------MAYBE

Carl is now 6 years-old, so obviously, 5 years ago, he was 6 - 5.
