Let x = amt each son receives
"wife received 3 time as much as each son": therefore
3x = amt received by the wife
The equation
3x + x + x + x + x = 84000
add like terms
7x = 84000
x = 84000/7
x = 12000 received by each son
and
3(12000) = 36000 received by the wife
