Question 1200152: Consider the following information on this Nutrition Fact label for Kind Bars Dark Chocolate Chunk Granola Bars. Use the information to answer the questions that follow.

1. For one serving (2 Kind bars), what percent of the calories is from fat? Hint: Part/Whole
2. The Nutrition Facts tell us that one serving (2 Kind bars) accounts for 17% of a person’s daily intake of fat for a 2,000 calorie diet. How did they get that number; in other words, how did they calculate that number? Hint: Use the information at the bottom of the label and that “total” fat for daily intake vs “total” fat of Kind bars.
3. What percent of a person’s daily allowance of carbohydrates do they use if they eat 2 Kind bars? What if they only eat 1 bar?
4. Assume a person has a 2,500 calorie diet. What percent of their daily allowance of carbohydrates do they consume if they eat 4 Kind bars?
5. Using the Percent of Daily Values at the bottom of the Nutrition Facts, create a unit rate that compares suggested saturated fat grams to total calories for a 2,000 calorie diet. Simplify the fraction. Hint: Set up a ratio and simplify to a unit rate.
6. Using the Percent of Daily Values at the bottom of the Nutrition Facts, create a unit rate that compares suggested saturated fat grams to total calories for a 2,500 calorie diet. Simplify the fraction. Hint: Set up a ratio and simplify to a unit rate.
7. Compare your answers from #5 and #6. What do you notice? What does this information really mean or what does it tell us about our nutritional needs?
8. Using the Percent of Daily Values at the bottom of the Nutrition Facts, create unit rates that compare the suggested amount of fiber grams to total calories for both the 2,000 and 2,500 calorie diet. Are they proportional? Are they “almost” proportional?
9. Using the knowledge that you have now, approximately how many grams of fiber should be recommended for a 3,000 calorie diet? Hint: Use a unit rate from #8 and set up a proportion to solve.
