The range of tan^(-1) is the range of angles closest to 0 over which the tangent function takes on all its values exactly once. That range is from -pi/2 to +pi/2.

Since the period of tan(x) is pi, we need to add or subtract multiples of pi to the given angle of (3/4)pi to get a concurrent angle between -pi/2 and +pi/2.

ANSWER: tan^(-1)(tan(3pi/4)) = 3pi/4 - pi = -pi/4
