Take a straightedge.

Place it horizontally at y = -4 and draw the horizontal line at y= -4
till the intersection with the graph.

Then turn the straightedge VERTICALLY and draw vertical line from the intersection point till intersection with x-axis.

The intersection point at x-axis will represent f^-1(-4).
