You can put this solution on YOUR website!
.
In what ratio does ( -5, -6 ) divide the line segment joining ( -9, -10 ) and ( 7, 6 )
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Let A = (-9,-10), B = (7,6) and C = (-5,-6).
Moving from A to B along the straigh line, connecting these points,
we should cover 7 - (-9) = 16 units along x-axis and 6 - (-10) = 16 units along y-axis.
Moving from A to B, we meet point C in 4 units horizontally and 4 units vertically.
It means that point C divides the line segment AB in parts AC and CB that are in proportion 1:3.
Solved.
Alternatively, you may use the distance formula to determine the lengths of the partial interval AC and CB.
It will give you the same answer, but the computational work will be greater.
