Question 1197309: Emmy flew home from vacation with a heavy bag. With the first airline she flew, Emmy had to pay $30 to check her bag, plus $6 for every pound that her bag was over the weight limit. The next flight was with another airline that had the same weight limit. Emmy had to pay $8 per pound that her bag was over the weight limit, in addition to the checked bag fee of $20. By coincidence, the fees ended up being the same with both airlines. How large was each airline's fee?

You can put this solution on YOUR website!

Hi
Let x represent lbs over the weight limit
1st Airline: $30 + $6x **
2nd Airline: $20 + $8x
 20 + 8x =30 + 6x
x = 5 lbs over the weight limit
How large was each airline's fee?
** $30 + $6*5 = $60 , fee both airlines charged for 5lbs over.
