The difference between 7/10 full and 1/2 full is

7/10 - 1/2 = 7/10 - 5/10 = 2/10 = 1/5

So the 5 gallons that was poured out is 1/5 of the capacity of the container; that makes the capacity of the container 5*5 = 25 gallons.

ANSWER: 25 gallons

.

    %287%2F10%29x - 5 = %281%2F2%29x = %285%2F10%29x

    0.7x - 5 = 0.5x

    0.7x - 0.5x = 5

       0.2x     = 5

          x     = 5/0.2 = 25.

ANSWER. The full capacity is 25 gallons.

The container is 7/10 full
Meaning we can represent this with 7 shaded slices out of 10 total

Take away 2 of those slices to get 5/10 full, aka 1/2 full.

Those 2 blue slices taken away represent 5 gallons poured out.
So each slice represents 5/2 = 2.5 gallons

10 total slices is 10*2.5 = 25 gallons which is the full capacity of the container.

Answer: 25 gallons
