Question 1196185: Mia bought a small plot of land for $10,000. It is expected that the value of the land will decrease by an average of $125 each year due to nearby industry construction. Which function can be used to find the value of the home in x years after Mia purchased it? f(x)=-125(x+10000) f(x)=10000 + 125x f(x)=-10000(x-125) f(x) =10000 - 125x

Mia bought a small plot of land for $10,000. It is expected that the value of the land will decrease by an average of $125 each year due to nearby industry construction. Which function can be used to find the value of the home in x years after Mia purchased it?
------------------
f(x)=-125(x+10000)
f(x)= 10000 + 125x
f(x)=-10000(x-125)
f(x) =10000 - 125x
----------------------------
The value after 1 year will be 10000-125 = $9875
Find f(1) and see if it matches.
----------
f(0) is $10,000
That would be easier to check.

you payed $10000
the value of the land will decrease ->$10000-%28amount-of-decrease%29
by an average of $125+each year (let the number of years be x)
=>$125x+
so, your equation is:
f%28x%29+=10000+-+125x

.

This problem is not to think.

It is to check if a student is able to read simple mathematical text
and if the student really does understand what he  (or she)  read.

Ideally,  this translation should go automatically,  without thinking.

Interesting,  in my school,  my teachers  NEVER  assigned me such problems.

Perhaps,  they implicitly assumed that we, young students,
are able to understand such simple things without special training.

My special thanks to them for teaching us to think for ourselves.

My personal opinion is that giving students such problems,  it is impossible to teach  Math.

Doing this way,  it is only possible to teach them to hate  Math.

God,  save us from such problems and such teachers  ( ! )

Simply description of linear relationship, easily put as equation, or function.

value when x year 0, 10000
slope, decrease 125 dollars per year
f(x), function name

f%28x%29=-125x%2B10000, just by simple transcription
