If Nelson originally had 4 times as much money as Meg, how much do they both possess before any exchanges were carried out?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At the beginning, Meg had x dollars; Nelson had 4x dollars.
After giving,
4x - 30 = (x+30) + 10.
Simplify and find x
4x - 30 = x + 40
4x - x = 40 + 30
3x = 70
x = 70/3.
