You can put this solution on YOUR website!
a = no. Abiodum's sweets
b = Taiwon's sweets
:
Write an equation for each statement, use elimination here
:
Abiodum and Taiwon share 735 sweets between them
a + t = 735
:
so that Abiodum get 95 sweets more than Taiwon.
a = t + 95
or for elimination we can write it
a - t = 95
:
Find how many sweets each get?
Use elimination with these two equations
a + t = 735
a - t = 95
-----------------adding eliminates t, find a
2a + 0 = 830
a = 830/2
a = 415 sweets
find t using the 2nd equation
t + 95 = 415
t = 415 - 95
t = 320 sweets
:
You can add them up to confirm the answer.

The solution from the other tutor, using two variables, is fine -- but it requires a lot of extra algebra to reach the solution.

With the given information in the given form, a solution using a single variable is much easier.

x = # of sweets that Taiwon gets
x+95 = # of sweets that Abiodum gets

The total number of sweets is 735:

x%2Bx%2B95=735
2x%2B95=735
2x=735-95=640
x=640%2F2=320

ANSWERS:
Taiwon gets x=320 sweets
Abiodum gets x+95=415 sweets

And here is an informal solution, using logical reasoning and simple mental arithmetic, that gets the answers using exactly the same path as the formal algebraic solution above:

(1) Take away the "extra" 95 sweets that Abiodum has; that leaves 640 sweets, with equal numbers for both.
(2) Divide the 640 by 2 to find each of them gets 320; that is Taiwon's share.
(3) Add the "extra" 95 to the 320 that Abiodum gets to get his total of 415.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
m, abiodum
n, taiwon

system%28m%2Bn=735%2Cm-n=95%29

If add corresponding sides
2m=735%2B95
2m=830

n=735-415
