x = number of people who registered on the day of the conference

150x = amount of money made from the people registering on the day of the conference, at $150 each

74 people registered in advance. They each paid $125. So in total this subgroup paid 74*125 = $9250

150x+9250 = total amount of money from both groups combined
150x+9250 = 12400

Solve for x
150x+9250 = 12400
150x+9250-9250 = 12400-9250
150x = 3150
150x/150 = 3150/150
x = 21

Answer: 21 people

how many participants registered on the day of the conference = = 21. ANSWER The formula is OBVIOUS and self-explanatory.
