You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Let x = the price of a single car in cents
John has enough to buy 50 cars, so
John has 50x cents
If the price of each car were 10 cents less,
the cost of each car would be x-10 cents
In that case, John would spend 50%28x-10%29 cents
That will come out of the 50x cents that he has
and he has some money left over, enough to buy 5 cars
at the lower price.
50x+=+50%28x-10%29+%2B+5%28x-10%29
50x+=+55%28x-10%29
50x+=+55x+-+550
5x+=+550
x+=+110cents
John has 50xcents
50%2A110+=+5500 cents
So, John has $55 answer is (c)
check:
50x+=+55%28x-10%29
50%2A110+=+55%28110+-+10%29
5500+=+6050+-+550
5500+=+5500
OK
