Asher had $460 more money than Oscar at first. After Asher spent 3/4 of his money to buy a pair of pants
and Oscar spent 1/5 of his money to buy a blouse, they had a total of $254 left.
How much more did the pair of pants cost than the blouse?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Originally Oscar had x dollars;  Asher had (x+460) dollars.
After spending, they had  %284%2F5%29x  (Oskar) and  %281%2F4%29%2A%28x%2B460%29  (Asher).
The sum of money which left gives an equation for x
    %284%2F5%29x + %281%2F4%29%2A%28x%2B460%29 = 254  dollars.
To find x, multiply both sides by 5*4 = 20; then simplify
    16x + 5x + 2300 = 254*20
        21x = 254*20 - 2300 = 2780
          x                 = 2780/21 = 132.38095  dollars.
Would the numbers in the problem be correct, x must be integer number of cents.
Since it is not so, I conclude that the input numbers in the problem are DEFECTIVE.
system%28h-c=460%2C%281%2F4%29h%2B%284%2F5%29c=254%29
system%28h-c=460%2C5h%2B16c=5080%29
h=c%2B460;
5%28c%2B460%29%2B16c=5080
5c%2B2300%2B16c=5080
21c=5080-2300
21c=2780
highlight_green%28c=132.381%29
In case some practical approximations were used, then
Oscar originally had $132.38 and Asher originally had $592.38.
