Asher had $460 more money than Oscar at first. After Asher spent 3/4 of his money to buy a pair of pants
and Oscar spent 1/5 of his money to buy a blouse, they had a total of $254 left.
How much more did the pair of pants cost than the blouse?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Originally Oscar had x dollars; Asher had (x+460) dollars.
After spending, they had (Oskar) and (Asher).
The sum of money which left gives an equation for x
+ = 254 dollars.
To find x, multiply both sides by 5*4 = 20; then simplify
16x + 5x + 2300 = 254*20
21x = 254*20 - 2300 = 2780
x = 2780/21 = 132.38095 dollars.
Would the numbers in the problem be correct, x must be integer number of cents.
Since it is not so, I conclude that the input numbers in the problem are DEFECTIVE.
