Question 1193028: hello, so I've tried to type this as clearly as I could. I have this fill in the blank question on my homework I'm unsure about and could really use the help. I left the answer choices next to the blanks, the final blank is asking for a solution. thank you!
Explain how the graph of the function f(x)=8/x can be obtained from the graph of y=1/x. Then graph f and give the domain and range.
To obtain the graph of f,__________ (shrink/stretch) the graph of y=1/x__________(vertically/ horizontally) by a factor of____.

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
your equation is f(x) = 8/x.
this should be the same as the equation of y = 1/x, except that it is 8 times as large.
note that 8/x is equal to 8 * 1/x.
here's 2 graphs of both equations.
the first is a far end view.
the second is a near end view.

the red graph is 1/x.
the green graph is 8/x.

you can see that the value of y for the corresponding value of x in 8/x is 8 times the value of y for the same corresponding value of x in 1/x.

you are stretching the value of 8/x vertically by a factor of 8.
