-A pole was put up on a lake and stands 13 meters from the surface of the lake. From the top of the pole, the angle of depression of a small bunch of fishes on the other side of the lake is 32°. What is the distance from the base of the pole to the location of the fishes? Found 3 solutions by Alan3354, greenestamps, ikleyn:Answer by Alan3354(69443) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website!
-A pole was put up on a lake and stands 13 meters from the surface of the lake. From the top of the pole, the angle of depression of a small bunch of fishes on the other side of the lake is 32°. What is the distance from the base of the pole to the location of the fishes?
----------------------
tan(32) = 13/distance
After seeing this problem posted at least two different times, and after seeing responses to those posts, I still find it hard to picture how a pole can "stand 13 meters from the surface of the lake"....
What is it "standing" on?
And we can't solve the problem if we don't know how LONG the pole is....
