You can put this solution on YOUR website! the ratio of james's age and bob's age is 10:9.
let x = the multiplier
then
10x = j's age
and
9x = b's age
The ratio of sarah's age and bob's age is 29:27.
let y = the multiplier
then
29y = s's age
and
27y = b's age
how old is bob. (bob is between 40 and 70 years old
27y = 9x
3y = x
In order for Sarah's age to be reasonable, y has to equal 1 or 2
if y=1, x=3, Bob is 27, not between 40 and 70
if y=2, x=6, Bob is 54

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
J:B = 10:9
S:B = 29:27
Rewrite one or both ratios as equivalent ratios with the same denominator.
J:B = 30:27
S:B = 29:27
The problem asks for Bob's age; these ratios tell us his age is a multiple of 27.
So his possible ages are 27, 54, 81, ...
The problem says he is between 40 and 70, so
ANSWER: Bob is 54 years old
Note the above is more work than you need to do. The given ratio S:B=29:27 immediately tells us Bob's age is a multiple of 27....
