Question 119061: Kelly has just enough money to rent a canoe for 2.5 hours. How far out on the lake can she paddle out and return if she paddles out at a rate of 3 km/hr and returns at a rate of 2 km/hr.
I can figure this out logically, but can't figure out how to write the equation

You can put this solution on YOUR website!
Kelly has just enough money to rent a canoe for 2.5 hours. How far out on the lake can she paddle out and return if she paddles out at a rate of 3 km/hr and returns at a rate of 2 km/hr.
I can figure this out logically, but can't figure out how to write the equation
----------------------------
Outward bound DATA:
Distance = x km ; Rate = 3 kph ; Time = d/r = x/3 hrs
--------------
Inward bound DATA:
Distance = x km ; Rate = 2 kph ; Time = x/2 hrs
--------------
EQUATION:
time + time = 2.5 hrs
x/3 + x/2 = 5/2
Multiply thru by 6 to get:
2x + 3x = 15
5x = 15
x = 3 km
