You can put this solution on YOUR website! A woman has 25 coins in her pocket, all of which are dimes and quarters. If the total value of the coins is $ 4.75,
 how many dimes and how many quarters does she have?
 :
 d = no. of dimes
 q = no. of quarters
 :
 "A woman has 25 coins in her pocket, all of which are dimes and quarters."
 d + q = 25
 "If the total value of the coins is $ 4.75,"
 .10d + .25q = 4.75
 :
 how many dimes and how many quarters does she have?
 multiply above equation by 10, subtract the first equation
 d + 2.5q = 47.5
 d + q = 25
 -----------------subtraction eliminates d, find q
 0 + 1.5q = 22.5
 q = 22.5/1.5
 q = 15 quarters
 then
 25 - 15 = 10 dimes
 :
 :
 Check
 15 * .25 = 3.75
 10 * .10 = 1.00
 ----------------
 totals to 4.75

 If it were all dimes, it would be 250 cents.
 Each dime replaced by a quarter adds 15 cents.
 ---
 475 - 250 = 225
 225/15 = 15 quarters.
