I just needed help, you don't need to be so mean about it.

@ikleyn, the snarky insult doesn't help anyone. It adds nothing of value. All it does is drag down the student who is genuinely asking for help.
Please STOP.
If you don't want to help (which is fine), then please don't post. Your attitude is toxic. The act of looking your nose down on someone is often a big reason why people get a sour mindset about math. Such behavior is not something a teacher should do. If you want more challenging mathematics, then you should go elsewhere. Normally I wouldn't engage in such distractions, but I've seen some of your other posts and they are of a similar nature (though thankfully not every post has unneeded "witty" commentary).

Anyways onto the math. The troops start off facing east. Turning to the right will have them face south. The compass goes North, East, South, West as you move clockwise. You can think of the saying "never eat shredded wheat" or "never eat sour worms" as two ways to remember the NESW configuration. Try to place yourself in shoes of one of the troops and go through the motions of turning. Drawing it out helps as well, which I recommend.

The phrasing "about turn" is the same as "about face". It means to turn the complete opposite direction. If the troops face south, then they'll about turn to face north.

Another right turn will have the troops face east again. A left turn will undo that and they'll face north once more.

With all the turning commands issued, it's a bit easy to get lost.

Here's a table to keep track of the directions after each command issued by the drill seargeant.
NumberCommandDirection
0NAEast (starting direction)
1Right TurnSouth
2About TurnNorth
3Right TurnEast
4Left TurnNorth
5About TurnSouth
6Right TurnWest
7About TurnEast

As the table shows, the troops will end up facing East when all is said and done.

Answer: D) East

Side note: I apologize for @ikleyn's rude behavior. This is not what the website is about. At all.
