You can put this solution on YOUR website!
The audience of a reality TV show cast a total of 3.4 million votes, and each vote went to either Brian or Susan. If Susan received 34,000 more votes than Brian, what percent of the votes were cast for Brian?
--------------------
S + B = 3400000
S - B = 34000
-------------------- Add
2S = 3434000
S = 1717000 votes
B = 1683000 votes
------------
B = (1683000/3400000)*100%
================================
Or:
S got 1% more of the total votes.
---> 49.5% and 50.5%

:
let b = no. of votes for Brian
then
(b+340000) = Vote for Susan
:
b + (b=34000) = 3400000
b + b = 3400000 - 34000
2b = 3366000
b = 3366000/2
b = 1683000 votes for Brian
"what percent of the votes were cast for Brian?"
1683000/3400000 * 100 = 49.5%
