Question 1188367: 3x+y=-8
-2x-y=6
Found 3 solutions by ikleyn, MathLover1, MathTherapy: Answer by ikleyn(52797) (Show Source):
You can put this solution on YOUR website! .
First step is to add two equations.
You will obtain then x = -2.
The final step is to determine y from the first equation
y = -8 - 3*x = -8 - 3*(-2) = -8 + 6 = -2.
ANSWER. x= -2, y = -2.
Solved and explained.

You didn't ask a question but if what you need is the solution to the system, then you need to know that that woman is OUT of HER MIND!!
Solving THIS problem the way she did, by substitution, is absolutely and totally UNNECESSARY.
ALL you need to do is ADD the 2 equations, as shown by Tutor @IKLEYN. Immediately, you'll get the value of x, which you can then substitute
in any of the 2 equations, and then solve to get the value of y. And, that's IT!!
If it's requested that this be solved by SUBSTITUTION, then you can solve for one of the variables, and by far (even a child could see this),
the easier of the 2 equations that should be solved for y is equation 1, NOT equation 2, as she recklessly did.
You need to IGNORE almost every problem that that person, MATHLOVER does here. I don't know why someone would claim to love something
that he/she seems to possess very little knowledge of. And, she's also known to plagiarize a lot.
Hope this WARNING is heeded!
