A bus driver forgets to stop at a bus stop. Just as he passes the stop, he begins to decelerate.
Five seconds later, the bus is 80m beyond the stop and has slowed to 10 m/s.
a) Calculate the speed of the bus as it passed the bus stop
b) What was the deceleration of the bus?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
In 5 seconds decelerating, the bus covered 80 meters.
Hence, the bus average speed vas 80/5 = 16 m/s  during this time interval.
Since the speed was changed LINEARLY as the function of time (! uniform deceleration !),
the speed of the bus before decelerating was 32 m/s.
It is the ANSWER to question (a).
Deceleration of the bus was  32 m/s : 5 seconds = 32%2F5 = 6 2%2F5  m/s^2 = 6.4 m/s^2.
It is the ANSWER to question (b).
Solved.
