Joy's age is four times the sum of the ages of her two cousins.
After 4 years her age will be thrice the sum of the ages of her two cousins. Find the age of Joy.
~~~~~~~~~~~
Let x be the sum of ages of the two cousins.
Joy's age is 4x, according to the problem's description.
After 4 years, Joy's age will be (4x+4) years;
               while the sum of ages of the two cousins will be  (x+4+4) = x+8 years.
Write equation as you read the problem
    4x + 4 = 3*(x+8).
Simplify and find x
    4x + 4 = 3x + 24
    4x - 3x = 24 - 4
       x    =    20
ANSWER.  Joy's age is 4x = 4*20 = 80 years.
Solved.
--------------
I do not touch this issue if it is realistic to be at the age of 80 years
and to have two cousins whose sum of ages is 20 years.
