Notice that 7%2F8 is 1%2F8 of a unit less than 1.

So, 7%2F8 is 1%2F8 of a unit to the left from 1.

Therefore, 7%2F8 is remoted 1%2F8 of a unit from 1.

Next, 8%2F7 is 1%2F7 of a unit greater than 1.

So, 8%2F7 is 1%2F7 of a unit to the right from 1.

Therefore, 8%2F7 is remoted 1%2F7 of a unit from 1.

Since 1%2F8 is less than 1%2F7, we see, that 7%2F8 is CLOSER to 1 than 8%2F7.
