You can put this solution on YOUR website!
"It is possible to have 46 coins consisting of pennies and nickels totaling exactly one dollar. Is she right or wrong? How?
:
We can find out by solving it and seeing if we get an integer answer:
:
c = no. of pennies; n = no. of nickels
:
c + n = 46
:
.01c + .05n = 1.00
Eliminate the decimals, mult by 100, then subtract the 1st equation
1c + 5n = 100
1c + 1n = 46
---------------subtracting eliminates c
0c + 4n = 54
n = 54/4
n = 13.5, therefore the answers is; she's wrong
